Lilian has been a resident at Ashton Manor for just over a year, first coming to stay with us in March 2024. It has been wonderful to have Lilian as a resident, she is always ready to participate in an activity and socialise with her fellow residents. Lilian’s cheerfulness and positive attitude can be felt throughout the home.

“I did not look for a care home myself, my family helped me to look around at care homes in the area and they found Ashton Manor. I am happy here, as happy as you can be in a care home. The staff are all kind. It was important to me to be able to mix well and I think I do. I like to be independent which they help me to do. I am close to my family who are very important to me.”

“I enjoy taking part in the activities they put on. Flower arranging and the book club, which is held once a week, are my preferred activities. I also write poems, I have a poetry book which was written in 2022. Through this I was able to raise over £400 for a local hospice. I have so many stories to tell, I love talking about the old days. I have written a memory book, which was printed in 2023.”

Lilian’s Poem (this was written by Lilian while still living at her home)

My Carers

Every morning round about eight

I hear the squeak of the garden gate

I wonder which carer I’ll have this time

It could be one of eight or nine

I see my carer’s smiley face appear

Guaranteed to bring good cheer

Three days a week I see her grin

As she reaches the door and comes right in

All my carers wear a smile

When they come to help a little while

Wearing gloves and apron and a pretty face mark

They help with everything I ask

Their job is not an easy one

So I try to give them a little fun

Like telling them when I climb a tree

A bet with the boy making fun of me

I was only eleven and climbed up easy

But when I looked down I felt so queasy

The boys stopped the milkman’s horse and cart

Who saved me from falling right apart
